Arbutus Little League provides a community based youth Baseball program for boys and girls ages 5 – 18.  On this page, you will find information about how to register, what you need to bring to registration and the cost.

Little League age is defined as the actual age the player will be on April 30, 2010.

The cost for Arbutus Little League is

1 player:          $70.00

2 players:         $140.00

3 or more:        $175.00           to be eligible for the family discount all players must reside at the same address.

All players are asked to participate in our fundraiser.  Information about this will be at registration.

Registration is held at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department.  Please see the home page of our web site for specific dates and times.

Please bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate and some proof of residency.  A parent’s drivers license or voters registration card will suffice.  We have geographic boundaries that we must adhere to in recruitment of players.  Some sort of documentation that proves you live within our boundaries is required.  Our boundaries generally include the greater Arbutus area (Arbutus, Halethorpe, Relay and Maiden Choice).  Our boundaries also include parts of Elkridge, nearly all of Catonsville.  Please send an email to the league President if you have questions about our boundaries.

Please also note that the back of the registration form has a health questionnaire that must be completely filled out.

We provide a complete uniform including pants, socks, shirt, and a hat.  You keep the uniform.  You are responsible for baseball shoes, batting helmet, athletic supporter and protective cup.  You can purchase a batting helmet at registration at our cost.  This will be considerably less expensive than buying a helmet in a sports department store.  Helmets must be NOSCAE approved, look for the emblem on the helmet.

Bats – Little League provides specific requirements for bats.  If you decide to purchase your own bat, you are strongly encouraged not to remove the plastic wrapping and to retain the receipt.  If you remove the plastic wrapping, the store will not allow you to return the bat.  Ineligible bats will not be allowed in Little League play, there are no exceptions.  If you have questions, you may bring the bat to registration, player evaluations, or you may email the league President or Safety Officer.

Below you will see a description of the various divisions of play that we sponsor.  Please note that we do offer some flexibility for placing players in leagues that are appropriate to their skills.  There are however some things we can not be flexible about.  The league has the final decision on placement of a player.  If you have questions about this, please ask at registration.

League Organization

TBall (ages 5-6)

This is a non-competitive program composed of 8-9 players on each team.  Focus is on having

fun and teaching basic fundamentals.  All hitting is done from a tee.

Note: Players league age 6 are allowed to advance to the Instructional league if they have played 1 year of TBall.  There is an evaluation to determine if they are ready or need another year at the TBall level.  If you did not play at Arbutus, you may be required to show proof that the child participated in another program in the previous season.

Instructional (ages 7-8)

This is a non-competitive program composed of 10-12 players on each team.  This is a combined coach pitch and kid pitch program.  This is a more advanced introduction to baseball and the rules.  Emphasis is on having fun and teaching fundamentals.  No score or records are kept.

Minor League (ages 9-10)

This is our first introduction to competitive baseball.  Teams are generally composed of 12 players.  Emphasis continues to be on having fun but competitive elements such as all kid pitch, and base stealing are introduced.  Scores and records are kept.

Major League (ages 11-12)

This is competitive baseball.  Teams are generally composed of 12 players.  Scores and records are kept.

Junior League (ages 13-14)

Games are played on a 90 foot diamond (just like the pros).  This is a competitive program.  This program generally follows major league (professional) rules.
